The Sliabh Aughty Mountains

The Mountains are also known as Slieve Aughty or Slíab Echtge and they hold a significant place both geographically and culturally.

Situated across Clare and Galway in the west of Ireland , these mountains are not only a picturesque landscape but also an important habitat for various species, particularly birds like the Hen Harrier and Merlin. Comprised mainly of Old Red Sandstone and limestone, the mountains boast diverse upland habitats, including blanket bogs and rough grasslands. The presence of lakes such as Lough Graney and Lough Atorick adds to the area’s natural charm and biodiversity.
